Goddess Katyayani is a radiant embodiment of divine strength and feminine energy. Revered as the sixth form of Durga during Navratri, she is the goddess who fulfills sincere desires—especially related to relationships, marriage, and spiritual success. According to the scriptures, the Katyayani Vrata was famously performed by the Gopis of Vrindavan to obtain Lord Krishna as their divine consort.
The Katyayani Jaap and Homam is a powerful ritual performed to invoke the blessings of the goddess for removing marriage delays, resolving relationship issues, and achieving harmony. This ritual consists of intense mantra chanting (Jaap) followed by a sacred fire offering (Homam), performed as per Vedic tradition under the guidance of learned priests.
Devotees are advised to wear red attire, use a red Chandan mala, and offer red flowers to the goddess. The Katyayani mantra is typically recited 125,000 times, ideally over 12 days, with a pure heart and visualization of desired outcomes. Chanting mantras like:
“कात्यायनि महामाये महायोगिन्यधीश्वरि।

Procedure of Katyayani Jaap and Homam

Preparation
The devotee takes a Sankalp (spiritual vow) before Goddess Katyayani, stating name, gotra, and purpose of the ritual. A clean sacred altar is set up with an image or idol of Maa Katyayani, decorated with red flowers, fruits, and kumkum. The devotee or priest wears red-colored attire symbolizing divine Shakti.

Invocation
The main mantra— “कात्यायनि महामाये महायोगिन्यधीश्वरि। नन्दगोपसुतं देवि पतिं मे कुरु ते नमः॥” is chanted using a red Chandan Japa mala. 125,000 mantra recitations are done, ideally over 12 days, with full concentration and purity. Daily Argala Stotra, Kavacham, and Devi Suktam may also be recited.

Offerings
After completing the mantra Jaap, a Havan Kund is prepared. Sacred fire is lit and offerings (Ahutis) of ghee, herbs, and samidha are made while chanting the Katyayani mantra. 108 Ahutis or as prescribed are offered into the fire to invoke divine blessings.

Aarti & Blessings
The ritual concludes with Purna Ahuti (final offering), symbolizing the completion of the homam. Durga/Katyayani Aarti is performed. Devotees offer red flowers, fruits, and sweet prasad to the goddess. The devotee offers final prayers, visualizing the fulfillment of marriage or relationship wishes, and seeks blessings of Goddess Katyayani. Prasad and holy ash (vibhuti) from the Homam are distributed to devotees.
Significance of Performing Katyayani Jaap and Homam on Auspicious tithi
Performing the Katyayani Jaap and Homam holds deep spiritual significance. Goddess Katyayani is not only a warrior goddess who slayed Mahishasura, but also a compassionate mother who responds to the sincere prayers of her devotees. Her energy helps eliminate karmic blocks, clear negative vibrations, and attract positive changes in life—especially in the sphere of relationships and inner transformation.
In the Bhagavata Purana, her divine intervention is invoked by the Gopis seeking divine love and marriage with Lord Krishna. This makes the Katyayani mantra especially auspicious for those seeking a suitable life partner or harmony in existing relationships.
The Jaap aligns one's consciousness with divine shakti, while the Homam purifies the environment and aura. The fire offering strengthens spiritual resolve, creates auspicious vibrations, and removes unseen obstacles. Overall, this puja leads to a higher spiritual state, attracting joy, love, and divine grace.
