Story of The Temple

According to local lore and Skanda Purana, this temple dates back to the era of King Harishchandra. When he faced a severe personal crisis, Maa Sankata appeared and guided him through it, hence earning the name Sankata Devi (Goddess of Distress). Nestled beside the ancient Sindhia Ghat, the temple remains a beacon of solace and strength for Kashi’s pilgrims.

Devotees believe just one darshan of the goddess with a pure heart can free one from grave troubles, planetary doshas, and mental unrest.
