Pauranik story Associated with the Kashi Annapurna Temple :
Lord Kashi Vishwanath had sought Biksha for the people of Kashi from Maa Annapurna. In return, Maa Annapurna blessed the city of Kashi that ‘anyone may wake up hungry in Kashi but cannot go to sleep hungry in Kashi’.

An episode of Adi Guru Shankaracharya and Maa Annapurna :
When Adi Guru Shankaracharya was here in Kashi he wanted to test this blessing which Maa Annapurna had given to the people of Kashi of not going to sleep hungry. One Day Adi Guru Shankaracharya did not eat for the whole day, he refused to eat even when somebody offered him food. Just as he was about to sleep, Maa Annapurna herself appeared in front of Adi Guru Shankaracharya and she gave him food with her own hands. Adi Guru Shankaracharya on seeing the beautiful swaroop of Maa Annapurna wrote down the famous stuti of Devi Annapurna known as the ‘Annapurna Stotram’

The first stanza of the Annapurna Stuti is :

नि त्यानन्द करी वराभयकरी सौन्दर्य रत्नाकरी
नि र्धूतर्धू ाखि ल घोर पावनकरी प्रत्यक्ष माहेश्वरी ।
प्रालेयाचल वशं पावनकरी काशी परुाधीश्वरी
भिक्षांदेहि कृपा वलम्बनकरी माता न्नपर्णेू र्णेश्वरी ॥१॥

bhakti.

The above Shloka has been taken from Skanda Purana, Kashi Khand where lord Shiva is saying that ‘Devotees who will perform Annadan Sewa in Kashi they and their upcoming generations will never have to face poverty during their lifetime’.

The annual Annakut Festival in the Kashi Annapurna Temple Is a very reverend and popular festival when Lakhs of devotees visit the temple for the darshans of Golden Annapurna Devi.
The Golden Annapurna Devi Darshan starts on the Dhanteras tithi and it goes upto the Annakut Date i.e for a duration of 4 days.
In this duration the Golden Annapurna Devi Darshan can be received who resides alongside Bhumi Devi and Maha Laxmi Devi. Lord Kashi Vishwanath can also be seen in the ‘Bhiksha Mudra’.
On the first day of the Annakut festival special golden coins are also distributed amongst the devotees as ‘Maha Prasdam’.
