Procedure of Kaal Bhairav Madira Seva

Preparation

Before the ritual, the altar is sanctified with Ganga jal and Vedic chants. Devotees take a sankalp in their name, stating their intention, Gotra, and purpose. Priests arrange the offerings such as madira, black cloth, oil lamp, mustard seeds, and flowers on a copper plate before the deity.

Invocation

The priest begins by invoking Lord Bhairav with traditional mantras like “Om Hreem Batukay Apaduddharanaya Kuru Kuru Batukay Hreem Phat Swaha.” Through this, Lord Kaal Bhairav is invited into the idol or image to accept the offerings and bless the devotee with divine presence and protection.

Offerings

The liquor (madira) is offered to Lord Bhairav either by pouring it into the special opening in the idol’s mouth (as in Kashi and Ujjain) or by placing it beside the idol. Along with madira, mustard oil lamp, black sesame, red flowers, and black cloth are offered while chanting Bhairav stotras.

Aarti & Prasad

After the madira offering, the priest performs Bhairav Aarti, waving camphor and oil lamps before the deity. The divine energy invoked is shared through blessings and Prasad, often including sweet offerings and a drop of madira sanctified during the puja. The devotee prays for wishes to be fulfilled.
