Conditions to be followed for Shivling Pratistha at home
- Shiva Linga should not be too large, but a fair-sized one of 1 to 2-finger length can be installed.
- Linga has to be Prana Pratishtita. This means Prana Pratistha should be done after installing Shiva Linga by methods and Mantra prescribed in scriptures and by Vaidika Vidhi.
- A Nandi Murti is to be installed along with the Shiva Linga, as Nandi is the Parama Shreshta Shiva Bhakta and Swayam Bhagawan Shiva has ordained that wherever he is, Nandi has to be there. Also, keep a coiled Snake (non-living) around Shiva Linga. That is Naga Raja Vasuki, who is also inseparable from Lord Shiva, who always stays coiled around his divine neck - Shri-Kantha and around the Linga.
- The house where Shiva Linga is installed should be free from Meat and TamasikaBhojana (which are called non-Veg) and alcohol.
- There should be no domestic violence in that house and it should be kept clean and some sort of spiritual, religious atmosphere should prevail.
- Shiva Linga should be worshipped daily. Only in the condition you are an adult woman living alone and it is your Asudhha days / Menstrual cycle, then you can skip the Puja, or if you are very sick or something unavoidable comes up.
- Installed Shiva Lingas cannot be moved unless it is a Narmadeshwara Shiva Linga.
